Welcome to Namibia! Upon arrival at the airport, we are met and transferred to Windhoek, where we collect our rental vehicle. From there, we drive through the surrounding farmland to our lodge in the Auas Mountains, just south of the capital. After a chance to settle in, we head out on our first guided game drive in search of oryx, giraffes, springbok and other wildlife. We end our first evening in Namibia with a relaxed dinner at the lodge.
After breakfast, we travel south towards the edge of the Kalahari Desert. Rolling red dunes, open savannah and camelthorn trees characterise this beautiful landscape. Upon arrival at our lodge, there is time to relax before joining a guided nature and sundowner drive in an open safari vehicle. Along the way, we discover the unique flora and fauna of the Kalahari before raising a traditional sundowner as the sun sets over the dunes.
Today's drive takes us through the wide open landscapes of southern Namibia towards Fish River Canyon. Along the way, there is an opportunity to visit the famous Quiver Tree Forest and the Giant's Playground, where enormous dolerite boulders have been shaped into unusual formations over millions of years. Continuing via Keetmanshoop, we reach our lodge near the canyon. Nestled amongst impressive granite outcrops, it blends beautifully into its natural surroundings and provides a memorable setting for the evening.
Today we explore the spectacular Fish River Canyon, the second-largest canyon in the world. Stretching for around 160 kilometres and reaching depths of up to 550 metres, this remarkable natural wonder offers breathtaking views across southern Namibia's rugged landscape. From the various viewpoints, we can admire the dramatic rock formations and the Fish River winding its way through the canyon far below. Afterwards, there is time for a walk, to relax at the lodge or simply enjoy the peace and vastness of this extraordinary setting.
Today we follow the Orange River and cross the border into South Africa. From here, we continue into Namaqualand, a region renowned for its colourful wildflowers during the flowering season in August and September. Around Springbok, the landscape is transformed by shades of yellow, orange, pink and purple. Depending on the time of year, there may be an opportunity to visit one of the nearby villages or flower-viewing areas. Our accommodation is set in the heart of Namaqualand, with lovely views across the surrounding mountains.
Today is yours to explore the remarkable landscapes of Namaqualand. Depending on the season and the wildflower display, you may wish to visit either Goegap Nature Reserve or Namaqua National Park near Kamieskroon. The best location varies from year to year and depends on the rainfall during the preceding weeks, so the ideal choice is often made locally. Even outside the flowering season, Namaqualand impresses with its granite hills, open landscapes and unique South African flora.
Today we continue south through Namaqualand. During the flowering season, the colourful carpets of wildflowers accompany us for much of the journey, with plenty of opportunities to stop for photographs. By the afternoon, we reach the spectacular Cederberg Mountains, a landscape of dramatic sandstone formations, rugged valleys and striking rock outcrops. Our lodge is set amidst this beautiful scenery, offering far-reaching views across the mountains. As the sun begins to set, the cliffs glow in rich shades of red and orange.
Today we leave the dramatic Cederberg Mountains behind and make our way to South Africa's West Coast and the seaside town of Langebaan. The turquoise lagoon, white sandy beaches and relaxed coastal atmosphere provide a wonderful contrast to the mountain scenery of the previous days. Our accommodation overlooks the lagoon and offers the perfect place to unwind. Those who wish can enjoy a walk along the beach, explore the town or join an optional boat trip on the lagoon.
Today we have the opportunity to visit West Coast National Park. Its protected lagoon and coastal habitats are particularly well known for their rich birdlife, with sightings varying throughout the year. The park is also home to several antelope species, zebras and other wildlife. Afterwards, we return to Langebaan, where the remainder of the day can be spent by the sea or at our accommodation.
Today we make our way to Cape Town. En route, and particularly during the flower season, there is the opportunity to stop in the charming town of Darling and round off the botanical highlights of the trip. By the afternoon, we arrive in one of the world's most beautiful cities. Nestled between Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Town is renowned for its spectacular setting and vibrant atmosphere. Our accommodation is located directly on Camps Bay Beach. In the evening, you may wish to visit the lively Victoria & Alfred Waterfront or enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants along the beachfront.
Today is yours to discover the highlights of Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula. Weather permitting, a trip up Table Mountain rewards visitors with spectacular views across the city, coastline and Atlantic Ocean. Afterwards, you may choose to follow the scenic coastal route to the Cape of Good Hope. On the return journey, there is the opportunity to visit the penguin colony at Boulders Beach or explore the world-renowned Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. All activities are optional, allowing you to explore at your own pace.
Today offers the opportunity to explore the renowned Cape Winelands. Rolling vineyards, historic wine estates and dramatic mountain scenery make this one of South Africa's most beautiful regions. The charming towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl invite visitors to stroll through oak-lined streets, browse boutique shops and relax in inviting cafés. A visit to one of the many wine estates offers the chance to sample award-winning wines while learning about South Africa's rich winemaking heritage. Afterwards, we return to Cape Town, where the day can be rounded off at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront or on Camps Bay Beach.
Today offers the opportunity to visit Hermanus, one of the world's best destinations for observing Southern Right Whales from both land and sea (seasonal, mainly from June to November). This charming coastal town is known for its beautiful beaches, scenic cliff paths and welcoming cafés and restaurants. Those who wish can join an optional whale-watching boat trip for an unforgettable close-up encounter with these magnificent marine mammals. Afterwards, there is time to explore Hermanus and enjoy its relaxed seaside atmosphere.
Today it is time to say goodbye to South Africa. Depending on your flight time, there may still be an opportunity for a final coffee overlooking Table Mountain or a stroll along the beach. Afterwards, we drive to Cape Town International Airport, return our rental vehicle and begin our journey home with many unforgettable memories.
