Welcome to Namibia! Upon arrival at the airport, we will be met and transferred to Windhoek, where we collect our rental vehicle. We then make our way to our accommodation, offering the perfect place to unwind after the long flight. The rest of the day is at leisure. Depending on our arrival time, we may take a first stroll through Windhoek, relax by the pool or enjoy a drink overlooking the city.
After breakfast, our self-drive adventure begins as we travel via Rehoboth towards the edge of the Kalahari Desert. Rolling red dunes, open grasslands and camelthorn trees characterise this beautiful landscape. After arriving at our lodge, there is time to relax before setting off on a guided nature and sundowner drive in an open safari vehicle. Along the way, we may encounter the first wildlife of the Kalahari while watching the sun set over the glowing red dunes.
Today we continue our journey through the Kalahari, travelling via Stampriet and Gochas towards Mata Mata, the gateway to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The vast red dunes and open plains provide a natural habitat for an impressive variety of wildlife. After arriving at our lodge, we head out on a guided nature or sundowner drive. Oryx, springbok, wildebeest, jackals, bat-eared foxes and, on occasion, brown hyenas or other desert-adapted animals are among the species regularly encountered.
The next two days are dedicated to exploring the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, one of southern Africa's premier safari destinations. Our game drives take us along the dry Auob and Nossob riverbeds, which attract an abundance of wildlife. The park is especially well known for its predators, while giraffes, oryx, eland, springbok and a remarkable variety of birdlife are also regularly encountered. Between game drives, there is time to unwind and appreciate the tranquillity of the Kalahari and the peaceful setting of our lodge.
Today we leave the Kalahari behind and return to Namibia. Our route takes us through the arid landscapes of southern Namibia, home to quiver trees and a remarkable variety of succulent plants. Along the way, we visit the famous Quiver Tree Forest and the Giant's Playground, where enormous dolerite boulders have been sculpted into fascinating formations over millions of years. Afterwards, we continue to the town of Keetmanshoop.
Today's drive takes us to Fish River Canyon, the second-largest canyon in the world. Along the way, we pass the Naute Dam, with the opportunity to stop at one of the local producers. By the afternoon, we arrive at our lodge near the canyon. Depending on the accommodation, we can enjoy sweeping views across the dramatic landscape or end the day with a sundowner as the evening light transforms the canyon into a palette of warm colours.
Today is dedicated to exploring Fish River Canyon. Stretching for around 160 kilometres, it is the second-largest canyon in the world and offers magnificent views across its vast rocky landscape. Depending on the lodge and our interests, we may visit a selection of viewpoints, enjoy one of the walking trails or join a guided excursion. Afterwards, there is time to appreciate the tranquillity of this remarkable place or simply relax back at the lodge.
Today we continue to the small settlement of Aus, where the wide open plains of southern Namibia gradually give way to the landscapes of the Namib Desert. The region is known for its peaceful atmosphere and vast horizons. During the afternoon, there is an opportunity to visit the famous Wild Horses of Garub, which are often seen gathering at the nearby waterhole. As evening approaches, the setting sun bathes the surrounding landscape in warm colours, bringing another memorable day to a close.
Today's drive takes us into the NamibRand Nature Reserve, one of the largest private nature reserves in southern Africa. Along the way, the Tiras Mountains, wide open plains and the glowing dunes of the Namib create an ever-changing landscape. Upon arrival at our lodge, there is time to take in the sweeping views or, depending on the accommodation, join an optional nature drive to experience this extraordinary wilderness.
