You will be welcomed upon arrival and transferred to the capital, Windhoek. This small but bustling city lies in a valley surrounded by the Auas and Eros Mountains. In the afternoon, you will take a short tour of the city and get a first impression of Namibian urban life.
You will travel south through the Auas Mountains towards the Kalahari semi-desert. This region is known for its red sand dunes, dry grasslands, and scattered camelthorn trees. In the late afternoon, you will explore the rolling dunes and observe the unique desert-adapted flora and fauna.
Your journey continues eastward through remote farming communities and arid savannah. As you approach the border region of the Kgalagadi, the red sands of the Kalahari dominate the scenery. The area is rich in wildlife and well-known for its desert-adapted species.
You will spend the day exploring one of Southern Africa’s most celebrated conservation areas. The park features vast open landscapes, dry riverbeds, and is home to a variety of animals, including big cats such as lions and cheetahs. The dry Auob riverbed is often a good place to spot wildlife.
Today offers time for rest or further exploration. You may return to the park or enjoy the serenity of the surrounding landscape. This part of the Kalahari offers a sense of stillness, with expansive skies and unspoilt nature all around.
You will drive through a barren but striking landscape filled with succulents and quiver trees. Along the way, you will visit a quiver tree forest and a site known as the “Giants' Playground” with its fascinating volcanic rock formations. Your journey continues towards the Fish River Canyon area.
Today you will explore one of Namibia’s most dramatic natural landmarks. The Fish River Canyon stretches over 160 kilometres and is considered the second largest canyon in the world. You may enjoy scenic viewpoints or take a short hike along the rim to better appreciate the vast geological formations.
You will head west into the sparsely populated and open desert landscapes near Aus. The area is known for its rugged terrain and historic ties to the German colonial era. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to visit the famous wild horses that roam freely in this arid environment.
Your route takes you along the edge of the Namibrand Nature Reserve, a region known for its unique combination of mountains, grasslands, and dunes. The drive offers scenic contrasts between the glowing red Tiras Mountains and the rolling desert plains. You may stop for photographs or a short walk.
Today you will travel north along the vast, open plains of the Namib Desert. This area is characterised by isolated mountains and far-reaching dune fields. You will reach the gateway to Sossusvlei, known for its towering sand dunes and stark desert landscapes.
You will depart early to witness the colours of sunrise in the heart of the Namib Desert. The dunes at Sossusvlei are among the highest in the world. A short walk takes you to Deadvlei, a dry pan filled with the ghostly remains of ancient camelthorn trees. Later, you may explore the Sesriem Canyon.
You will leave the desert behind and drive northward over the Spreetshoogte Pass. The pass offers one of the most breathtaking views in Namibia. As you enter the Khomas Highlands, the landscape changes to rolling hills and granite outcrops. This area is ideal for scenic walks and nature observation.
You will make your way back towards Windhoek, passing through farmland and open savannah. The afternoon is free to relax and reflect on the experiences of the past days.
