After landing at the airport in Windhoek, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your first overnight stop just outside the city. The surrounding area is quiet and offers the opportunity to relax after the flight. In the afternoon, a short drive or walk around the property gives a first impression of the landscape and rural atmosphere of central Namibia.
After breakfast, you will travel south via Windhoek and Rehoboth into the Kalahari semi-desert. The road leads through farmland and savannah, with changing scenery throughout the day. In the afternoon, you will join a nature drive in an open vehicle. The route takes you through soft red sand dunes, scattered acacia trees, and grass-covered plains. This region is home to various antelope species and smaller mammals, as well as many birds adapted to dry conditions.
Today’s drive continues westward, crossing the Tsaris Mountains into the Namib. The journey includes mountain passes, open gravel plains, and views of the distant Naukluft range. On arrival in the desert region, there is time to visit the Sesriem Canyon, a narrow gorge carved by water over centuries. You can explore the canyon on foot before returning to your accommodation.
You will start the day early with a drive into the Namib-Naukluft Park to visit the Sossusvlei area. The high dunes here are among the tallest in the world. A short hike into Dead Vlei allows you to walk across the dry pan surrounded by towering dunes and scattered dead camelthorn trees. After the visit, the journey continues northward through remote desert scenery to the next stop.
Today you will travel across the central Namib Desert. The route passes through the Gaub and Kuiseb canyons and open plains where wildlife such as ostriches, oryx, and springbok may be spotted. After a stop in the town of Walvis Bay, the drive continues along the coast to Swakopmund. On arrival, there is time for a walk through town or along the beach. Dinner can be enjoyed at a local restaurant near the ocean.
This morning includes a catamaran cruise in Walvis Bay lagoon. The tour offers good chances to see dolphins, Cape fur seals, pelicans, and flamingos. Light refreshments are served on board. In the afternoon, you have time at leisure in Swakopmund. Optional activities include scenic flights, a visit to the museum, or a walk through the town centre with its colonial buildings and small shops.
After breakfast, you leave the coast behind and head inland. The drive passes Namibia’s well-known inselberg, the Spitzkoppe, before reaching the Erongo Mountains. The lodge is located among granite boulders and offers a peaceful natural setting. In the late afternoon, a short walk with a local guide gives you an introduction to the geology, plant life, and views of the area.
Today’s route leads north to Etosha National Park. After passing through small towns and farmland, you reach the park by midday. Etosha is one of the largest national parks in Africa and is centred around a vast salt pan. You will begin your first game drive with your guide this afternoon, visiting nearby water holes and looking for giraffes, antelopes, and other species.
You will spend two full days in and around Etosha National Park. Drives take place in a closed vehicle with large windows and offer regular stops at waterholes. The park is known for its variety of wildlife including elephants, zebras, lions, springbok, and wildebeest. With a bit of luck, you may spot some of the more elusive species such as black rhino or cheetah. Evenings are spent at the edge of the park where you can reflect on the day or watch animals come to drink at floodlit waterholes.
After leaving Etosha, the journey heads southeast via Tsumeb and Otjiwarongo to the Waterberg. Along the way, a short stop at Lake Otjikoto is possible — a small sinkhole lake with historic significance. The Waterberg area is known for its cliffs, trails, and wildlife. On arrival, there is time to relax or take a short walk.
In the morning, a guided walk on the plateau gives you insight into the local vegetation and views across the savannah. Afterward, you continue to the Okonjima area. This is the base of the AfriCat Foundation, which focuses on the conservation of predators such as leopards and hyenas. In the afternoon, you will join a guided activity on the reserve to learn more about their work and observe wildlife.
You travel south to a private reserve located on the outskirts of Windhoek. The journey is on good roads and passes through farmland and bush. In the afternoon, a sundowner game drive is included. This is a relaxed outing in an open vehicle to see some of the area’s wildlife one last time.
