This 14-days self-drive tour allows you to experience 'Classic Namibia' in all its beauty.
Day 1: Arrive in Windhoek
After
our arrival we are transferred to our nearby Guestfarm in the Auas Mountains.
In the afternoon we are taken on a farm drive on this special farm ending with
a sundowner experience.
Day 2: Journey to the edge of the Kalahari Desert
We
travel south to a lodge on the edge of the Kalahari. Red sand dunes and the
endemic Camelthorn tree form the landscape, we are taken on a game drive to
view the many desert adapted antelope and birds including the giant sociable
weaver nests.
Day 3: Depart to Sesriem/Sossusvlei
We
travel down the escarpment to the edge of the great sand sea. We continue along
the Naukluft Mountains to our lodge at Sesriem, the gateway to Sossusvlei.
After walking the geologically interesting Sesriem canyon we can continue to
the Elim Dune for a walk up to the
summit, to enjoy a 360-degree view of the surrounding desert landscape.
Day 4: Sossusvlei
We
depart at sunrise along the Tsauchab River deep into the dune sea, all the way
to Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei. After walking this wonderful area for a few hours,
we can enjoy a well-deserved picnic under the huge Camelthorn trees found here.
Thereafter we travel via Solitaire to our lodge overlooking the desert plains.
Day 5: Via the Gaub- and Kuiseb-pass to Swakopmund
We
continue northwards on our own scenic drive between the escarpment and the red
sand dunes, over the desolate gravel plains, to Swakopmund. Apart from the huge
landscapes, there are a variety of animals to be seen along the way as well as
unique and interesting trees and desert plants.
Day 6: Swakopmund
We
are taken on an interesting Marine Cruise to view seals, dolphins, pelicans and
other sea birds and sea life. Other activities we could consider are quad
biking in the dunes or a Living Desert Tour. An interesting and historical
town, we can visit the aquarium, the museum and the crystal gallery. There are
a variety of interesting shops and coffee shops that we can enjoy.
Day 7: Journey to the Erongo mountains
The
drive takes us back into the desert past the Spitzkoppe granite inselberg, the
«Matterhorn» of Namibia. The area is famous for a large variety of
semi-precious stones that are mined from the ancient granite rocks. We can go
on walks in this flora rich area which is home to a variety of endemic birds
and other interesting animals.
Day 8: Drive to the Etosha National Park
Etosha,
The Great White Place, is a park over 24000 sq km in size. Apart from the wide-open
plains, there are a number of interesting waterholes to visit. We can do our
own game drives to view the many animals and birds in this special and scenic
park, including elephant, lion and rhinoceros.
Day 9: Etosha National Park
We
continue on our own game drive all the way to Halali, visiting the many
waterholes where the animals congregate, along the way. Halali is well known as
a birding hotspot and the interesting Moringa waterhole set amongst the
dolomite rocks.
Day 10: Game drive through the park
Another
day of game viewing in this animal kingdom. The old fort at Namutoni is worth a
visit before we leave the park to reach our unique lodge nestled amongst the
Terminalia and Combretum trees.
Day 11: Journey via Tsumeb to the Waterberg Plateau
On
the way to the Waterberg we can visit the bottomless lake Otjikoto and the very
interesting museum at Tsumeb. We continue via Grootfontein or Otavi to the
sandstone cliffs of the Waterberg.
Day 12: At the Waterberg Plateau
There
are several interesting walking trails that we can follow to explore this
scenic nature environment. We may also choose to take a game drive along the
Waterberg plateau, home to a variety of big mammals including rhino, buffalo
and giraffe
.
Day 13: Drive to Okahandja
We
travel via Okahandja to reach our lodge at the foot of the Otjihavera
mountains. We can relax in the lovely gardens and take a plunge in the crystal-clear
pool. In the late afternoon we are taken on a game drive to enjoy this special
private nature reserve and view the many animals.
Day 14: Drive to Windhoek and International flight home
After
returning our rental car, we are transferred to the airport for our flight home
.
