A 15 day self-drive tour
through the South of Namibia, experiencing the beauty of the Kalahari, the
Namib Naukluft and the Namib Desert.
Flight From Europe/rest of the world
Arrival to Windhoek
At the airport we will be picked up by our tour
guide and are taken to the lodge. In the middle of the African bush we can
relax in the garden and by the pool, from where we have a beautiful view of the
farmland. In the afternoon we take a farm tour and
possibly see the first wild animals.

Journey to the edge of the Kalahari
In the morning we drive via Rehoboth and Kalkrand into the Kalahari. At
sunset we take a nature tour in an open jeep in the up to 30 m high red
longitudinal dunes with typical flora and fauna of the Kalahari Semi-Desert.
Red Dunes Lodge in the Kalahari
Keetmanshoop to Fish River Canyon
Today we are facing a longer stretch. We travel through arid areas with
many succulents like quiver trees. The bushmen used the dead branches as
quivers for their arrows. We can take a closer look at this Aloe species on the
way by the quiver tree forest. Not far from the Quiver Tree Forest is the
"Playground of the Giants" (Giant's Playground), ancient volcanic
rock formations that transport every observer into a fascinating fantasy world. Canyon
of the Fish River Canyons
The Fish River Canyon is considered the second largest canyon in the
world. It is about 160 km long, in places up to 27 km wide and 550 m deep. During
the rainy season, the water meanders like a snake through a grey-brown rocky
landscape towards the Orange River, the border river to South Africa. The docile
and rather harmless appearing river has managed to erode the canyon during many
millions of years. There are many hiking possibilities either at the lodge and
in the canyon.
along the Oranje River to Aus
Today's scenic route takes us first south and then along the Orange
River. The Orange River forms the border to South Africa and flows through a beautiful
desert landscape. Along the Orange River alfalfa and wine are cultivated. The
shiny green is a welcome change to the otherwise extremely dry environment.
Klein-Aus Vista, Desert Horse Inn Lodge at Aus
We drive through the Namib Desert to Lüderitz on the Atlantic Ocean. We
explore Lüderitz and its surroundings. The natural harbour was discovered as
early as 1487 by the Portuguese navigator Bartholomaeus Diaz. We also visit the
ghost town Kolmanskop. In 1908 the diamond rush began here. Everyone stormed
into the desert in the hope of getting lucky. But after the First World War,
the diamond finds decreased very much, and the village became a ghost town.

the NamibRand Nature Reserve
The drive from Aus along the Namibrand is one
of the most beautiful and impressive. To the right of the road the Tiras
mountains and wide landscapes, to the left the red and yellow shining sand
dunes. We check into our chalet which boasts a breath-taking view of the dunes,
the desert plain and the nearby mountains.
Wolwedans Dunes Lodge
The Namib Rand Nature Reserve is a highlight for enthusiastic
photographers and nature lovers. Game Drives in the morning and in the
afternoon are offered. We drive over the seemingly endless grasslands dotted
with the legendary fairy circles, over smaller dunes, and along mystical
mountain formations. We might see animals like oryx antelopes, ostriches, and
springboks, which know how to survive in this arid desert area. These
landscapes are beautiful and radiate a special calmness - balm for the soul.
Wolwedans Dunes Lodge
Today we only have a short distance to drive and we can enjoy the
morning on Wolwedans to the fullest. Our next accommodation is close to the
park entrance of Sossusvlei and offers us a wonderful view of the huge sand sea
in the west and the Naukluft mountains in the east.
In the afternoon we drive to Sossusvlei, to the highest dunes in the
world. Since the sun is already quite low, the high sand dunes shimmer golden,
yellow, and reddish on one side, but are dark and shady on the other side.
Thus, the dune ridge stands out razor-sharp. Short hike and visit of the
photogenic Dead Vlei with its dead tree trunks. On the way back to the lodge we
can explore the Sesriem Canyon.

Journey via Gaub-Pass to the
Via Solitaire, where we might try the legendary apple pie, we drive to
the Corona guest farm, located at the foot of the Gamsberg, which is the third
highest mountain in Namibia with 2347m. The guest farm is well known for
hospitality and excellent food. After coffee and cake, we will go on a farm
tour in the rough and rugged landscape of the surrounding area. From a
particularly beautiful vantage point, we enjoy the sunset with a drink.

Continue over the Gamsberg Pass and the Khomas Hochland to Gocheganas.
The private nature reserve covers 6000 hectares and is home to about 1600 wild
animals such as giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and various species of antelope. Here
our tour guide will bid his farewell.
