Day 1: Royal Tree Lodge

On arrival we are driven to our nearby lodge. Out of the hustle and bustle of Maun, the lodge is situated in a private game reserve, under a canopy of shady trees. Apart from the spacious and luxury rooms on wooden decks, this a the ideal area to take a walk to enjoy the pristine nature and view some of the wildlife which includes giraffe, zebra, springbok, ostrich, eland, oryx and kudu as well as an extensive variety of bird life. Dinner is served by candlelight on the lodge’s expansive teak deck. We can relax in anticipation of the exciting adventure that awaits us over the next few days. Lodge near Maun on the Thamalakane River.

Day 2: Kanana Camp, Okavango Swamps
We are transferred to Maun Airport for our flight into the Swamps. Kanana lies on the Xudum River. The area encompasses a necklace of islands dotted with palms, figs, ebony and knobthorn and is home to a myriad of birds, plants and animals. It is the perfect place to experience the diversity of species found in the Okavango Delta. We enjoy a fine lunch and in the afternoon we are taken on our first game drive in this special area. At Kanana, guests may choose to gamedrive, go on boat trips, do mekoro trips or simply go on a guided walk. There should be time for all of these activities. Lodge in the south western Okavango Swamps.

Day 3: Kanana Camp, Okavango Swamps
The morning is the perfect time to explore the crystal clear waterways by Mekoro or motorboat, and enjoy the magnificent variety of birds, plant and reptile species found in the area. Birding is spectacular, and Kanana hosts a seasonal heronry that teems with activity, a Kanana highlight which converts all visitors to avid birdwatchers at first sight. In the afternoon a guided walk is highly recommended as is fly or spin fishing for Tilapia, African Pike and Sharptooth Catfish. The wet and dry habitat of the area ensures that a wide variety of wildlife is consistently found here including the must see elephant, hippo, leopard and lion. Lodge in the south western Okavango Swamps.

Day 4: Okuti Camp, Okavango Swamps
We fly the short distance to Okuti. We have the opportunity to enjoy the comforts of our spacious ‘curved tents’ located on teak decks with views over the Maunachira River leading into the Xakanaxa Lagoon. In the afternoon we may consider a game-drive or a boat trip on the Xakanaxa Lagoon. Okuti is situated in the heart of the world-renowned Moremi Game Reserve. Moremi is rich in wildlife and its consistent year round game viewing makes it ideal for first time visitors to Botswana. In the evening we can share our experiences with some of the other guests over a fine dinner before retiring to the safety of our comfortable luxury tents. We fall asleep to the sounds of the wild all around us secure in the knowledge that another adventure awaits us the following day. Lodge at the Xakanaxa Lagoon, north eastern Okavango Swamps.

Day 5: Okuti Camp, Okavango Swamps
An early morning start sees us on a game drive into the Moremi Game Reserve. Our experienced guide has a very good idea where the animals are to be found. He will make all the effort to lead us to the elusive leopard and other interesting animals we may have not seen yet. Botswana is home to the largest population of elephant in Africa with over 130 000 of these special creatures in the parks of northern Botswana. Every sighting is special and we have the time to marvel and photograph at will from our open and elevated safari vehicle. The late afternoon is ideal for a final boat trip on the open lagoon and winding waterways to find the many exciting bird species. We enjoy our final sundowner, the sun setting over the Moremi forests, before returning to the comforts of our lodge and the friendly staff that await us. Lodge at the Xakanaxa Lagoon, north eastern Okavango Swamps.

Day 6: Departure Day
We enjoy a special breakfast before departing with our small plane back to Maun to continue with our African safari or fly back home
